Time For The Republicans To Ponder

After Hillary made nice and said some positive things about GW Bush, The Republicans need to be concerned.

They could lose the middle-class vote if the Democrats take this on...

A Democratic Think Tank came up with some clear points about taking back power from The Republicans.

I was hoping to be part of the Think Tank that she is holding, but I kept getting distracted.

Democrats' Message Misses Middle Class

Monday, May 08, 2006
By Martin Frost

Lots of people bemoan the fact that the Democratic Party does not connect with white middle class voters, but few of the complainers offer workable solutions.

Third-Way, a "center progressive" think tank made up of former Democratic Congressional and White House staffers, has now addressed this issue with some real insight.

In a study released on May 4, Third-way notes that Democrats believe they are talking to middle class voters but that their message is all wrong. The study then makes some very specific suggestions on how to solve the problem.

Let’s review the bidding.

First, middle class is defined as household income between $30,000 and $75,000 a year. Obviously this figure could go higher in some parts of the country, depending on cost of living factors.

In 2004, John Kerry lost middle class white voters by 22 points and Congressional Democrats lost middle class white voters by 19 points. Kerry lost all middle class voters as a group (including whites, Blacks and Hispanics) by 6 points.

This was not an aberration but part of a trend. In 2000, Al Gore lost middle class white voters by 15 points and Congressional Democrats lost them by 14 points. In 1996, Congressional Democrats lost middle class white voters by 12 points.

According to Third-way, “Americans are optimistic about the nation’s future and their own; (Democratic) messaging is not. Americans see our society as a basically fair one, where hard work is rewarded; progressives emphasize obstacles to middle-class success.”

The study faults Democrats for always attacking the wealthy, noting “the middle-class aspires to wealth and doesn’t see big business or the wealthy as enemies.”

It adds that Democrats “downplay the strengths of the American economy…and fail to inspire conviction that America can continue to lead the world.”

Stated another was: “Let’s be clear – no one can deny that there are serious and legitimate concerns about our economy. The nation’s federal budget deficit is at a record high, as is America’s trade deficit with the world. Manufacturing jobs have declined, and the gap between the wealthy and the middle-class is increasing. These are not trifling problems that should be glossed over by progressives. But for every piece of bad news, there is also good news about the economic health and future of America.”

The study added, “It is in the American nature to believe that America…will prevail in an economic battle against China, Japan and India and that the American standard of living can only get better. If progressives believe otherwise, they will be wrong on substance as well as wrong on the politics.”

The study then goes on to categorize a number of proposals that Democrats think help the middle class but which really help primarily the poor: raising the minimum wage, expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, increasing the size of Pell grants for college, making the child care tax credit refundable and fully funding Head Start.

These ideas “are worthy progressive initiatives, but they have virtually no impact on the middle class.”

The study notes that the average family income for Pell grants was $19,460 in 2003-04; that Head Start is specifically targeted for children living in poverty or whose families are on public assistance and that only 2.7 percent of the entire workforce earned the minimum wage last year.

The final part of the study urges Democrats to be optimistic about America and offer ideas that directly benefit the middle-class.

Here are some of Third-way’s specific proposals:

(1) Get the nation’s fiscal house in order by controlling entitlement spending, reining in budget deficits and “holding the federal government to the same standards of efficiency and competitiveness that are demanded of the nation’s companies and workers.”

(2) Invest in infrastructure to create jobs of the future by investment in research and pure science and wiring the nation for advanced information technology.

(3) Help businesses keep jobs in America by containing health care costs, lifting some of the burden of retirement security off of business and punishing countries that use unfair trade tactics that harm American companies.

(4) Make college the goal of all young Americans by expanding the tax deductibility of college tuition for middle class parents.

(5) Provide all Americans with affordable health insurance in the form of “competition-based health care reform.”

There’s a lot more packed into this report. Democrats who want to win back middle class voters should read every word.

What do you make of that?

If the Dem's actually follow that, they are back in the game.

And how does this California Republican think that will affect my life?

It won't.

Can you imagine Feinstein and Boxer taking that on?

I can't.

What would Feinstein and Boxer have if they didn't have big-business to hate on?

Nothing.

My emails to Boxer went unanswered in regards to helping us with gas prices by lowering the taxes they collect. I still think that the real winner in the oil companies record profits is our government.

They will continue to talk out of both sides of their mouth, but the rest of the country could see a change...

If The Dem's could actually put this proposed platform into action, they would easily be able to take over the country in the same way The Republicans did in '94.

I'm at a loss, these are the things that I want to see a reality, but I don't trust the Dem's to do it.

At the same time, The Republican's have failed to do it, so what am I to do?

Vote Democrat?

I hope not.

I hope The Republican's figure this out.

It's easy...

Does that look familiar?

This Is Dangerous

I don't like the sound of this at all.

Sen. Clinton Says Bush Has Charm, Charisma

By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Asked to say one nice thing about President Bush, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton went one better: She named two things.

"He is someone who has a lot of charm and charisma, and I think in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, I was very grateful to him for his support for New York," Clinton said Tuesday night during a talk at the National Archives about her life in politics.

Clinton, a potential presidential candidate in 2008, said that despite their "many disagreements about many, many issues," she has always had a good personal relationship with the president.

"He's been very willing to talk. He's been affable. He's been good company," said Clinton, D-N.Y.

The junior senator from New York, who is up for re-election this year, said she is still thankful for Bush's personal commitment to helping rebuild lower Manhattan after Sept. 11, 2001.

She recalled how the president, in the grim days that followed the terror attacks, pledged in a private meeting with New York lawmakers to help rebuild the shattered city.

"It was a very personal, very emotional discussion and when we asked him for the help that New York needed he immediately said yes," said Clinton.

At that meeting, Bush pledged more than $20 billion in aid and tax incentives. Some New York Democrats have since charged the Bush administration has fallen billions of dollars short of that goal because some of the programs were underused, but Clinton said the president kept his promise.

"He always kept it on track," she said. "He made sure we got the resources that we needed and I'm very grateful to him for that. ... I am very appreciative in the time when the people I represented needed his help, he was there for us."

Uh-oh!, is Hillary starting to figure it out?

Does she see that US middle-class is getting sick and tired of the Democrats bashing every little thing Bush does, blaming every downfall on The Republicans, and letting a nut-job like Howard Dean run the show?

The Dems go off on the rich, and blame big-business for everything.

But they miss the fact that the middle-class strives to be a part of the upper-class, they don't blame anything on the upper-class. In fact, they like the upper-class and big-business, they provide the middle-class exsistance and opportunity that they enjoy. They (I should say We) know where their (our) bread is buttered.

Is Hillary backing away from the typical Hate-everything-Republican, Democratic Platform?

If so, she could be very dangerous.

I only hope this was a temporary moment of insanity for Hillary.

If she, or any other Democrat could get off the Hate-Platform, they would be poised to take the Whitehouse, almost unopposed.

Yes, almost unopposed. Go ahead, comment away....

Pick Your Hottie

If you had to spend any extended amount of time with one of these women, who do you choose?

Before you answer, let's get to know a little about them...

On the left, you have Pim's Ghost, a very well spoken contributor to The Infidel Bloggers Alliance.

On the right, you have Eva Longoria, a super-hottie that lives on whatever street that Desperate Housewives live. Clearly, that is not any street any of us guys live, or they would not be so Desperate...

But anyway, both look about the same.

Before you ask if I'm serious, think about it, Eva had a pound of makeup, and a dozen people making her up.

PG, just a camera.

1 point for PG in my book. You get the real thing with her.

PG posts many well written things.

Here's PG's comment about United 93 on Fu2rman and Friends regarding the cessation of subtitles...

One point too, they stopped the subtitles for the Arabic once the hijackers began praying, and I know very little Arabic. But my nemesis, the shahada, was right there on the big screen. For the audience members discussing after the film ended, I told them what was being said.
The 1st part of the shahada, "There is no god but allah", repeatedly. That was my only complaint with the movie. They should have kept up the subtitles when the bastards were praying. Everyone knows "Allahu Akbar", but less know the rest, which was also chanted repeatedly at the NYC protests of the "Islamic Thinkers Society". They chanted it in full, "There is no god but allah and mohammad (damnation be upon him) is his prophet".

And here is a quote from Eva...

I hope you all can't see my underwear through this dress!

Well Eva, we hope we can, and if you want to show more than your underwear, I don't think a man alive would object.

However, there are more quotes.

She said it was "unfortunate" that in the United States -- a nation of immigrants -- some lawmakers want to deport illegal aliens and fence off the Mexico/U.S. border.

"Mexicans contribute an enormous amount to our society, economically and socially," she said. "I don't think this administration can afford to have things end badly."

See Eva, that is where you lost me. The US is a nation of immigrants, you are right, but we are a nation of LEGAL immigrants.

You see, the issue is not about immigration, it's about ILLEGALL immigration, see the difference?

Probably not, I won't hold my breath. Even though Eva has the US to thank for her fame and fortune.

I have no problem with Latinos taking up the cause for Mexicans wanting a better life, I'm with you!

But the problem is not with the US, it is with Mexico!

If Mexico isn't able to provide jobs and a decent way of life to their people, take it up with Mexico, not the US!

I'm sorry you can't make a living in your own country, but that is not the fault of the US.

Eva, is it getting more clear?

No?

OK, I'll sum it up for you readers...

Let's look at pics of Eva and PG again, and you choose, smart-hottie, or Eva-hottie?

I choose PG, every day of the week.

And with a level playing field, PG is better looking anyway, and you won't have to tune out Eva's ridiculousness.

PG wins!

People top 100, you missed the boat, you suck!

On A Serious Note

If you have not gone to see United 93, quit f***ing around and go!

There are a few good reasons to see this movie.

I just saw it last night.

I thought, 'Oh, wow, I don't think I want to see it, it may be weird, it may make me sad, it may be uncomfortable.'

Are you feeling the same?

Well get the hell over it!

I don't go to many movies, I'm a Netflix kinda guy, but this was more than worth it.

I don't even know where to start with my opinion on the movie.

I guess I'd start with the fact that I left the movie speechless.

Did I like it?

No, I hated it.

I hated watching planes crash into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

I hated watching United 93 crash.

But I loved NOT seeing United 93 crash into the White House.

I loved seeing Americans take a stand against terrorism, and take United 93 down before it could hit it's target.

But I still hated watching the movie.

However, this was a very well done movie, and should not be missed.

It is not too soon, it is perfectly timed.

As so many Americans have forgotten what happened on September 11th, it is time to get back in touch with the heinous acts of these terrorists.

As Americans seem to not have the stomach to fight a war on terror, all Americans should be required to see this.

Our enemies have the stomach to kill us without 'talking' to us, without 'getting to know us.'

They don't care!

We are Americans, and that is enough for them to hate us, and kill us.

I don't condone hate, I don't want to go out and hate all Muslims, and I don't want anyone else to hate all Muslims.

But as an American, whose homeland was attacked, I demand 'Good Muslims' distance themselves from these murderous villains, or they should be considered part of the problem.

If Good Muslims wish to be part of the United States, it is time to speak up.

Speak out against the killing!

If you can't speak out and be proud of the life that the US has afforded you, go home.

If you hate us, leave.

If you can't stand the way we do things, get out.

That is part of our freedom, if you don't like something, you are free to leave...

Let me leave this long post with this...

Go see United 93, 10% of the profit will go to the victims funds.

If you don't, you should be ashamed of yourself.
